Well woman visits are also called gynecological exams, OB/GYN exams, pelvic exams or annual wellness exams and may include:
- Initial and annual gynecological examinations
- Pelvic Exam and PAP Smear
- Prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STD Testing)
- Screening for breast and cervical (HVP) cancer
- Contraceptive Counseling
- Pregnancy Testing
- HIV testing and counseling
It’s a good idea to have your first wellness visit around age 13 to 15. It may just be a talk with your doctor plus a regular physical exam. Your doctor or nurse will check your height, weight and blood pressure.
If you’re sexually active, you may talk about birth control or STD testing.

The American Cancer Society recommends starting Colonoscopy screening at age 45, or earlier if you have a family history of colon cancer.
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recommend that all women over the age of 65 get preventive screenings for bone mineral density. Screenings are also recommended for women under the age of 65 who have conditions of higher risk for fracture.
