Dating abuse is more common than you think. 1 in 3 high school students experience either physical or sexual violence or both from a dating partner. Young women age 18-24 experience the highest rates of intimate partner violence.

Dating abuse is a public health issue that affects people from all ages, backgrounds, and identities. It is a pattern of behaviors one person uses to gain and maintain power and control over their partner. Dating violence can be both physical and emotional and abuse can come in many forms.

Walk-In Teen Clinic
In addition to Behavioral Health Services, Lake Powell Medical Center has a confidential Walk-In Teen Clinic every 3rd Wednesday from 2:30-5:30pm.
- You can just walk in without an appointment during teen clinic hours
- The people there like working with youth, they should be respectful, non-judgmental and can try to help you out with whatever you need
- You can go by yourself, with a friend, or with a partner
- Medical and counseling services are free or low cost
Help for Parents
One of the most important things you can do is keep the lines of communication open with your kids.
- Be a role model – treat your kids and others with respect.
- Start talking to your kids about healthy relationships early – before they start dating.
- Get involved with efforts to prevent dating violence at your teen’s school.
- If you are worried about your teen, call the loveisrespect helpline at 1-866-331-9474 or text “loveis” to 22522.
